What Am I? Playing Charades

Years ago I made some easy to read charade cards to use as a literacy centre activity but more often I have used them as a whole class activity. It's a quick and easy time filling game, perfect for when you find yourself with 5-10 minutes to spare in a classroom.

The original set of cards I made were designed for early readers and writers which meant I chose images young children would be familiar with but also able to write independently in their first years at school. But when I used them as a game for a whole class, I found them too small so for my new class I have created a new set of larger, easier to see cards with some different animals and objects to act out for the others to guess at rather than write their answers down.

The rules are simple. One student chooses a picture card from the pile, looks at it (without saying out loud what it is!) then acts out it out for the rest of the class to guess. Sometimes I need to check in with the student to make sure they know what to do and if that happens we might chose another card for them to try instead.
