Work on learning your uppercase, lowercase letters and initial sound with one simple FREE printable card game. With four different ways to play, these cards are perfect for literacy centres!
With many of my students still not confidently identifying their capital or uppercase letters, we've included several activities to our literacy centre rotations recently to help them learn this concept.
They love playing games together and many of our literacy centre activities have an element of play included so I was thrilled when one of my students came up with this simple memory game for learning our upper and lower case letters.

Her initial concept was to simply match the upper and lower case letters but never one to waste a learning opportunity and knowing how many of my students still rely heavily on visual supports, I added a third element - picture cards, to her original idea.
This means with one set of cards we can focus on our understanding of initial sounds, matching sounds to letters and matching upper and lower case letters. Perfect for differentiating in the Early Years classroom!

The game is simple to play.
Print out the cards onto lightweight cardstock to make them more durable and so you can't see through them. You may want to laminate them to make them last longer too.
Decide on your focus - initial sounds and lower case letters? Upper and lower case letters? Or all three?
Place the cards face down in front of you and take it in turns to turn over 2 or 3 cards at a time to make a match.
To prevent, frustration, especially if trying to match three cards, DON'T use all the cards at once.
There's simply too many!
Simply select the sounds/letters you want to particularly target for that group of children.
